Driving into a scrap yard with various types of metals and recycling items can be overwhelming and daunting to an inexperienced scrapper. You may ask yourself, what can I do to make this faster and more efficient. Everyone is busy, and we understand that! Here are a few tips to make your next trip easier!
Firstly, please sort your materials. Do you need a list of what materials Metro Recycling accepts? You can find our list here: General Recycling Guidelines. You will need to sort your ferrous metals and nonferrous metals. Ferrous does not contain Iron, nor will it stick to a magnet. Example of these materials are aluminum, copper, brass etc.
Secondly, know where you are going. We have a buyback barn for ferrous metals, newspaper, Christmas lights, and some scrap under 100 pounds. For larger items, larger amounts of scrap, stainless steel, auto cast, and heavy melt, etc., please drive across the large scale outside.
Next step, know your laws. Every state has their own set of laws at a federal and local level. Metro Recycling’s yards are located in Griffith, Indiana, Valparaiso, Indiana, and Blue Island, Illinois. To be efficient and move through our yard quickly, take note of what is required.
Finally, do not be afraid to ask us a question. Our yard employees are very knowledgeable. You can call us at 855-97-SCRAP and visit us at WHEREDOIRECYCLE.COM
